In the framework of ongoing cooperation between the École Française d’Athènes and Panteion University’s Research Centre for Modern History, and the Research Unit for Digital and Spatial History, the Digital History Seminar for the Mediterranean and the Balkans aims to build a community of researchers employing these methods. Part of this initiative, this workshop seeks to support and empower scholars aiming to familiarize themselves with tools for mapping for historians and other scholars in the humanities. It is envisioned as an introduction to aspects of digital cartography.
Throughout a two-day programme and mostly through a hands-on approach, we will introduce participants to digital projects that rely on geospatial analysis and visualization, we will discuss the particularities of working with structured data in the humanities, and we will provide them with conceptual and technical foundations to start working with geographical data, covering subjects such as geolocalisation, georeferencing, and work with points, lines, polygons, and overlapping layers.
The workshop will take place during two consecutive mornings on March 27 and 28, 2025.
For those interested in participating in the workshop, please fill this form until March 15. Selected participants will be informed on March 20 at the latest.
