Research networks

A large number of French and francophone higher education and research institutes from the Eastern Mediterranean met at the Cyprus Institute on the 4th and 5th April 2019, in an event supported by the French Embassy in Cyprus and the École Française d’Athènes.  The participants noted a major convergence of interests relating to training, exchange of knowledge and data, and common research goals in the fields of archaeology, history and heritage.
They expressed their intention to cooperate in a joint declaration which established the “Confluences” Network. There was a particular focus on academic and professional training for new technologies, on long term research efforts which connect the past and future of heritage, and on the exchange of expertise and knowledge in the field of the digital humanities.
In this context, Cyprus, for historical and geographic reasons, has been identified as the ideal place for this partnership to emerge, and the Cyprus Institute as the coordinating institution to develop it further. The institutes will involve in this cooperation the relevant authorities in their host countries as well as other relevant stakeholders.

Confluences aims to organise and develop, in the form of a regional cooperation, a common platform allowing for exchange of knowledge and competences, mutual training and joint research in the fields of archaeology, history and heritage in the Eastern Mediterranean.
