Résumé
Founded in 1922, the French Archaeological Delegation in Afghanistan (DAFA) was established to promote French research and influence in Afghanistan. For a long time, its primary objective was to uncover traces of the Greek presence in the easternmost part of the Hellenistic world conquered by Alexander the Great. Initially revealed through artistic influences, such as in Gandharan art, and later confirmed by the discovery of the major site of Ai Khanoum, the Greek presence appears to have been decisive in the history and arts of Afghanistan. This lecture will present the results of the DAFA’s work, as well as current research based on its extensive archival holdings.
