Archaeological research at the sanctuary of Apollo at Amyklai goes back to the 19th century with a long history of excavation within its peribolos. There is, however, still little research on the use of the adjacent areas of the temenos, although according to the literary evidence, the Hyacinthia festival extended to areas outside of the core of sanctuary. In this presentation the focus lays on the investigation of the immediate surroundings of the sanctuary regarding evidence of anthropogenic use, thereby identifying potential zones for excavation and to better understand the topographical features of the site, as well as the position of the sanctuary within its local and regional context. To achieve this, the use of various types of innovative technologies has begun in recent years, which have provided important information and results on human activity in the areas investigated.
