The 22^nd International Bronze Congress will take place in Athens from October 14 to 18, 2024.
Established in 1970, the international bronze congresses provide the leading forum for scholars in this field, attracting participants from all over the world.
In 2024, papers and posters on all aspects related to ancient bronzes will be welcome, regardless of chronological and geographical implications, from stylistic analysis to manufacturing techniques and diagnostics, from conservation/restoration issues to the enhancement and later histories of bronze artifacts.
In addition, the theme Bronzes in Context will offer a new perspective, inviting scholars from universities, museums, archaeological institutes and other institutions – not necessarily bronze specialists – to explore this specific approach. The 22^nd International Bronze Congress will provide the opportunity to present recent or unpublished material from excavations, to shed new light on neglected finds and assemblages, to recontextualize objects in collections and museum storerooms, to trace provenance or biography, including archival and conservation research.

Oral communications and posters

All submissions will go through a peer review process. Please send your proposals for papers or posters by March 31^st, 2024 to the following email address athensbronzecongress2024@gmail.com, providing:

• your name and affiliation
• the title (please indicate whether the proposal is for a poster or an oral presentation)
• an abstract in English (2500 characters maximum including spaces)

You will be notified of acceptance well in advance of the Congress. Although remote participation will be available, you are strongly encouraged to attend in person to facilitate interaction with the community of scholars.

Languages

The official languages for oral communications are English, French, German, Greek and Italian. You are kindly asked to write the texts of your Power Point presentation in English (or in English+one of the other official languages of the Congress).
The language of poster presentations is English.

Publication

As is usual for international bronze congresses, a publication is planned. Details will be given in further communications.

Registration fees

Registration fees will be collected by bank transfer from March 2024.
Regular fees (100 Euros) and reduced fees for accompanying persons and students (80 Euros) are due by May 17^th, 2024. After the deadline, registration will remain open only for attendees without a presentation.
Students are kindly asked to send an email to athensbronzecongress2024@gmail.com prior to registration, providing a University registration document for 2024.
The registration fee includes access to Congress sessions and keynote lectures, a conference bag, coffee breaks and receptions. Further information, including bank transfer details and other facilities, will be provided in the second announcement.
