Paschalis Paschidis Institute of Historical Research, National Hellenic Research Foundation

SÉMINAIRE HYBRIDE / ΥΒΡΙΔIΚΟ ΣΕΜΙΝΑΡΙΟ / HYBRID SEMINAR

Περίληψη / Resume / Résumé

The speaker presents mostly unpublished (but also some already published and now reinterpreted) inscriptions from a new epigraphic corpus covering the areas of Krestonia, Mygdonia and Anthemous in ancient Macedonia, due to be published in the coming months. The texts presented, despite often being preserved only fragmentarily, offer new insight into the history, geography, institutions, onomastics and cult life of the areas under study and relate to a number of topics, including the possible identification of new cities in the area, the presence of Roman conventus, the chronology of the imperial cult and the appropriation of the civic centre by civic elites at Kalindoia, the division of the civic body into tribes, naming strategies, and religious associations, with particular emphasis on the importance of studying inscriptions –even unassuming fragments– in their precise geographical, historical, archaeological, and epigraphic context.
